 Introduction 


The Marshall Scholarship is a prestigious postgraduate scholarship program for American students to study at any university in the United Kingdom. Established by the British government in 1953 to commemorate the Marshall Plan, the scholarships aim to strengthen the enduring relationship between the UK and the US and promote academic excellence.

1. Eligibility:

Open to United States citizens who (by the time they take up their scholarship) hold their first undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.

Must have obtained a grade point average of not less than 3.7 on their undergraduate degree.

 Candidates must have graduated from their first undergraduate college or university after April 2019.


2.Selection Criteria:

       Academic Merit: Quality of the candidate's academic program and potential to excel in a chosen field of study.

  Leadership Potential: Evidence of leadership and ambassadorial potential.

        Ambassadorial Potential: Likelihood of becoming a future leader, opinion-former, and decision-maker in their country.

  Personal Statement: Personal statement showing the candidate's commitment and passion.


3. Funding:

        Covers university fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, and fares to and from the United States.

Up to 50 scholarships are awarded annually, tenable for two years, with the possibility of a third-year extension for select programs.


4. Application Process:

       Applicants must apply online through the Marshall Scholarships application system.

   The application includes several essays, academic transcripts, four letters of recommendation, and endorsement by the candidate's undergraduate institution.

     Deadlines are typically in early October, with interviews held in various regions across the US in November.
